Individually hand-sculpted by a CMAQ-certified artisan in our Montreal studio.

The Independence Cuff carries this legacy into sculptural form. It is inspired by the women who fought in the Turkish War of Independence — fearless warriors who defended their land, yet also creators of beauty and tradition in times of peace.

Materials & Craftsmanship

  • Brass, pastel pink antique silk with Sim Sirma embroidery in copper thread
  • Weight: 170 g
  • Handmade through the lost-wax casting process
  • Dimensions: Inner diameter 6 cm | Inner circumference 17 cm | Back opening 3.5 cm | Height 5.5–10 cm (asymmetrical)

The Independence Cuff is a tribute to women’s multifaceted power: unyielding in battle, timeless in the art they carry forward.

Hypatia of Alexandria, who lived in 5th Century Alexandria, Province of Egypt, Eastern Roman Empire, inspires the Cosmos & Chaos collection. The collection honours this forgotten heroine, whose work and mission greatly impacted her society and beyond.

The choice to use her story as inspiration is due to its relevance to our current social climate. This situation parallels our lives today. Hypatia was famous as the leading philosopher of her age who succeeded in a man's world through her brilliance, advocating for tolerance and equality when dominant powers put rigid rules in place, specifically for women. She was a pioneering woman, mathematician, and astronomer. We pay homage to her passion for astronomy by using gemstones in the collection to give the energy and celestial feeling of the cosmos. The brutality and chaos of the Alexandrian society of the time are exemplified in the dramatic, aggressive, and molten textures used in pieces.

Hypatia's legacy, discoveries, and heroic struggle is infused into this bold collection. The designs breathe new life into her legacy and will empower you while moving forward in creating your own.
